Overview:
This symposium has been designed to cover some of the aspects of modern cardiology practice that provides difficulty in diagnosis, assessment and management of patients to both the specialist and generalist.
We have focussed our first session on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition being increasingly recognised due to changes in cardiac imaging. This condition is linked with sudden death and significant morbidity in both young and old. The session will examine diagnosis, imaging, management, family screening, genetic testing and future training in this condition.
Our other sessions review and update latest evidence and guidelines on the management of:
- Coronary disease assessment
- Syncope
- Ventricular arrhythmias
In addition to receiving a contemporary review of these ever changing fields conference delegates will gain an appreciation of the challenge of translating new technologies and clinical trials into everyday clinical practice.

Overview:
Knowledge of a broad spectrum of haematological issues has become even more important for a range of individuals practising medicine. Many haematological disorders have presentations that bring patients into contact with their GP or with acute care and general medical physicians. Routine investigations often provide results, such as a high haemoglobin, a thrombocytosis or a paraprotein that require appropriate interpretation and further investigation involving haematology departments. It is common to suspect lymphoma when you just don't know what is wrong, everyone deals with patients who are anticoagulated and knowing what to do with patients with venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism is also a common scenario for colleagues outside haematology. Finally, as the population demographic changes more medical practitioners need to know how to deal with the issues presented by patients with sickling haemoglobinopathies
Our symposium addresses the common issues above and our expert speakers will give clear clinically orientated approaches to the topics discussed.

Overview:
The impact of neurological illness encompasses everything from our understanding of how genes function within the nervous system, to how to advise someone with a chronic neurological illnes on how to best live with their condition. In between we need to know to assess common symptoms such as headache and have some sort of understanding of what neuro-imaging tests mean. With this in mind, we are delighted to welcome you to our annual neurology symposium. This will be of practical value to all grades of practising clinicians both in general medicine and in specialised neurological practice. Our Keynote Lecture will touch on an important theme that impacts everybody’s health – equality.
